GLSS-Great Lakes Super Sprints

Second Half of GLSS Season Begins with Tri-City/Crystal Doubleheader

Merrill, MI - The MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP are headed back to Michigan for a doubleheader weekend featuring Auburn’s Tri-City Motor Speedway and the second trip this season to Crystal Motor Speedway in Crystal, MI. The Tour comes back to the Mitten with eyes on the first successful doubleheader weekend of the season.

Tri City Motor Speedway has been favorable to the team who currently has Michigan on lockdown with GLSS. Jared Horstman is the all-time wins leader on the tour and also sets the pace at Tri-City winning seven of the 19 races there since 2016. The next closest driver in wins at Tri-City is also second on the all-time wins list, Dustin Daggett who has three. Gregg Dalman, Chase Ridenour, Ryan Ruhl, and Max Stambaugh all have two wins, while Brand Lamberson is the seventh different winner with a win in 2021.

Drivers have already been chasing Horstman in Michigan as the two-time GLSS Champion looks to reel in a third title. The Cloverdale, Ohio native has won four of the five races held in Michigan this season, with fellow championship hopeful, Max Stambaugh, grabbing the other event that was held.

Last year, the three best at Tri-City proved it by trading the lead. Daggett paced the field early before a mistake sent him over the top of turn one with less than five laps to go. Three restarts followed directly with five laps to go and Horstman and Stambaugh swapped the lead multiple times before Stambaugh went on to win. Stambaugh held off Mike Keegan and Ruhl during the August race for back-to-back wins at Tri-City.

Saturday, Crystal Motor Speedway plays host to GLSS for the first time since the season opener in April. Ryan Turner set a new track record in qualifying, but Jared Horstman dazzled fans in his heat race going nearly 115 MPH average around the speedway. Horstman grabbed the win holding off a charge from Scotty Thiel and a hard-charging Keith Sheffer, Jr.

Daggett has the stranglehold on Crystal with four wins in the 16 race held there since 2016. Horstman drew within one after his April win, with Stambaugh and Danny Sams III both at a pair of wins. Kyle Sauder, Michael Burkin, Dylan Westbrook, Brad Lamberson, and Kasey Jedrzejek all have one win each of the nine different winners.

The Championship standings are tight as the second half of the season unfolds. Horstman holds just a six point advantage over Stambaugh on the Tour with Daggett, Phil Gressman, and Chase Dunham rounding out the top five. In the Michigan Division, Horstman sets the pace over Daggett and Stambaugh with a 100-point advantage going into the weekend. With a total of 225 points available for a perfect night, the championship battle is far from over with nine weeks remaining.

Friday night racing at Tri-City Motor Speedway begins at 8:00 PM with fireworks to follow. The first race of the night goes green Saturday at 7:00 PM. Fans who can’t make the trip can watch every lap live at www.GreatLakesSprints.Tv.
