GREAT LAKES FALL SPRINTACULAR WASHED OUT

Auburn, MI - Ten months in the planning and Mother Nature cancelled another event. This afternoon the first annual Great Lakes Fall Sprintacular was cancelled when heavy rains were imminent. After receiving over 7 inches of rain the past week, Tri-City Motor Speedway couldn’t handle much more rain to its already saturated grounds.

Fortunately, we were able to have a beautiful night and a smooth track to put on a show for the fans last night with 34 stout cars present from 5 states and Canada for our final points race of the season. Dustin Daggett (Portland, MI) won the 2018 Championship, putting together another solid performance, setting fast time, finishing second in his heat and finishing 3rd in the feature after starting 7th.

Gregg Dalman (Bellevue, MI) went into the night 24 points behind Phil Gressman (Helena, OH). Dalman finished 8th in qualifying, took 2nd in his heat and drove from 5th to win his second feature of the season. Dalman secured 2nd while Gressman, Danny Sams III (Northport, FL) and Chase Ridenour rounded out the top 5 points winners.

The field of cars was going to grow for Saturday with 31 cars staying over the night and 7 others registered to come. However, it evidently wasn’t meant to be. The weather forecast which looked good late Friday afternoon, took a wrong turn, showing rains in the afternoon and most of the evening.

After weighing all the factors involved in putting the show together, it was decided to not make the teams spend another night and wait out another day only to cancel in 24 hours. We felt our best window to race would be to get it in today...since the over night rains would be too much for the property to handle.

No one is more disappointed than me that the weather has been so un-cooperative. We know our drivers have been excited about this show and were looking forward to racing again tonight.

All fans and teams that bought tickets online will have there money refunded via their credit card. Any teams that mailed in early registrations will have their registration and pit pass money refunded to them.

We want to thank Tri-City Motor Speedway for all the planning, as well as time and energy that went into getting this event put together. We want to also thank all the fans for your comments and suggestions to our series. The fan support has been overwhelming this season with 13,000 followers now on Facebook!

Please feel free to continue to send us your thoughts and comments and we will continue to build a sprint car series you will love to follow!
