GLSS-Great Lakes Super Sprints

Daggett on top of points standings after first weekend of racing

Daggett, Stambaugh, Dobie, Ridenour and Gressman take the early points lead after first weekend of racing!
Great Lakes Super Sprints finally was able to get a couple races in over Memorial Day Weekend. After getting rained out at I-96 Speedway and Silver Bullet Speedway on May 13th and 14th, 2/3rds of our members journeyed to Ohio to help support the NRA Sprint Invaders.
Friday Night, May 27th turned out to be a beautiful night for racing and a strong showing by GLSS members making the trip down to Limaland. With a field of 30 sprint cars, GLSS had 16 members present for our first night out together!
GLSS Members were off to a great start with Gregg Dalman winning the 1st heat race of the night, Dustin Daggett winning the 2nd heat race, Chase Ridenour battled hard, but lost the lead at the end of heat race 3 for a 2nd, while Max Stambaugh took a 1st place home in heat race 4!
GLSS members filled out half the field in the A-Main and represented well! At the end of the night NRA member Jared Horstman won, giving him his 3rd feature win this year in just 4 races!!!
Saturday, May 28th started out promising, but by mid-afternoon pop up thunder showers built and the Waynesfield race was rained out. So instead of racing, we through together a cookout at Marshall Campbell’s shop near Lima. We ended up having 9 drivers and 40 team members stop by and eat brats, hamburgers and hot dogs while checking out the GLSS Education Sprint Car!!!
Sunday, May 29th ended up a great day for racing as we all headed to Eldora Speedway! There was a full field of 32 sprint cars for the Johnny Appleseed Classic. We had a couple GLSS cars that headed home Sunday, but had a couple more cars show up, still boasting 16 member cars in Eldora!
With the appearance of Christopher Bell and Rico Abreu, the competition became a little stiffer. However after qualifying, GLSS member Randy Hannigan sat on top with quick time and Dustin Daggett was our next member sitting with 6th quick time. At the end of the night Bell and Abreu took the 1st and 2nd spots on the podium with Hannigan coming in 3rd!
GLSS member Chris Durand #67 experienced some engine trouble and had to cut short their 6 race tour and head back to Port Stanley, ON. While GLSS member DJ Lamance (#18) making his first appearance in a sprint car since a terrible wreck last fall, had to cut short his run with a broken rear axle.
All in all, it was great to get some racing in and spend some time together with the NRA and GLSS teams. The weekend was strictly an NRA Sanctioned event and was not co-sanctioned by GLSS. However we were happy to come down and double the field of cars for the weekend, making a great show for the fans!
Next up for GLSS, Co-sanctioned races at Hartford Speedway and Brownstown Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Friday, June 3rd and Saturday, June 4th respectively.
